The following prerequisites must be completed before capturing Patient Access API usage:

• Configure the Cluster Manager to use a Kafka message broker.
• Configure the payer's Identity Provider (IdP) to include the member's Patient ID (patient), the user identifier (sub), and the application's client ID (client_id or azp) as claims in its access tokens. Register each third-party application as a client of the IdP.

Then complete the following steps:

• Configure SMART Inbound Security to validate the IdP's tokens and store their claims on the user session.
• Create the Patient Access API Endpoint as a dedicated FHIR endpoint.
• Add Usage Data to the Transaction Log with an interceptor on the endpoint.
• Publish Usage Events to Kafka with a Transaction Log Broker module.
