Anthology: The HAPI Project History

The HAPI Project was started at University Health Network in 2001 as an effort to promote interoperability and innovative uses of health data.

Today, there are two sister projects we maintain:

• HAPI FHIR: Our flagship project with support for the HL7 FHIR standard
• HAPI HL7v2: Our legacy project with support for the HL7 v2.x standard. HAPI HL7v2 is still very much in production use around the world, and remains supported for use. The project receives very few updates now, mostly because the HL7v2 standard is fairly stable at this point.

Here are a few important milestones we've passed along the way.

November 15, 2001

HAPI HL7v2 releases its first release (0.1) on Sourceforge. This release featured a simple ER7 parser and some basic generic message structures.

April 25, 2010

HAPI HL7v2 releases HAPI HL7v2 1.0 on Sourceforge. By the time the library hit its first non-point milestone, it was already being used in projects around the world and had a large and active community.

February 17, 2014

HAPI FHIR records its first commit.

April 15, 2014

HAPI FHIR records its first (0.1) release on SourceForge.

June 2014

HAPI FHIR moves from SourceForge to GitHub.

April 8, 2015

HAPI FHIR releases the first non-point release (HAPI FHIR 1.0).
